Post Filming - Meeting 28/2

Today we had a meeting to discuss the weekends filming, any updates and our plans for our next shoots.

Joe had a look at the rushes from Saturday and went through what had been a success and what hadn't. He said the interview wasn't great for a few reasons - in places Tango spoke to fast, he um'd a lot which would make it hard to cut bits out, although asked he didn't mention the question in the answer sometimes and the setting/background wasn't great either.
This is actually something I had anticipated actually because after thinking about it afterwards we jumped at the chance to interview him in a quiet room but then I felt it didn't add any context to him or the documentary as it just had a plain wall background with a lamp and it didn't seem very natural, I would rather have him near/in the ground, drinking a pint or with his mates so it doesn't feel so staged.

Due to this, with Tango's permission, we have decided to do the interview again this Saturday before the match and we will do it outside the football stadium a few hours before kick-off so it's quieter and you can see Hillsborough in it to give it some context and also make it more visually interesting then previously.

Joe also said that the walking shots filmed at the beginning were a bit too shaky so this is something we will have to re-do and try and combat again on Saturday  Joe suggested using straps tied around the body and camera to try and steady it a bit and also said the camera operator should slow down a bit and not get too worried about matching the pace of Tango's walking or tell him to slow his pace a bit.

He said that the long shot from the hill of the crowd were good and the long shots of the stadium through the park are OK I think. Despite the fact we only used flip cams he said the sound was actually all right quality but despite this I have still suggested we take a Marantz and Audio technica (Rifle) mic in with us next time in a bag to try and capture a really good quality sound of the crowd cheering and band playing because a lot of it will provide background sounds and music to the documentaries.

Updates:

Paul said the band are happy to play for us somewhere before the match starts on Saturday so we were thinking in the park behind and also outside the ground and me and Paul also thought it would be good if we could try and get Tango in there as well.

We also have permission to go to Wolverhampton on Monday and film Tango at home and work - I want to see if his wife would mind answering a couple of questions for us too on Tango and what she thinks.

I've also had a tweet back from one of the Sheffield Wednesday 1st team players who gave me a comment of what he thought about Tango.

During the meeting we discussed what equipment we would need for Saturday and Mondays shoot. We had a discussion about lighting and I thought it would be best to take a kit just in case so Jacob said he would book that out a long with the tripod and camera. Luke's also going to book out the Marantz, Rifle mic, Lapels mics, and boom pole again. Tomorrow me and Paul will go and get the tickets for the game from the Hubs, this time 4 of us are going in and it's a 5.20pm kick-off so we wont have much natural light to use during or after the game. On Monday for a shoot in Wolverhampton I said I don't mind driving and neither does Joe as we both have cars so we'll sort that out nearer the time.
